Getting Out

Getting out
I stare blankly at the big movie screen. Out of all the people I could have sat by. I ended up sitting by Patty Benson, the most disgusting girl in our school. She reeks of B.O all the time and never brushes her teeth. I hold my breath as long as I can and try to picture she’s not by me. I scoot to the edge of my seat, as far away from her as I can, and cringe. I watch her as she shoves popcorn and candy in her mouth over and over again. I examine her for just a second and see unshaved pits and greasy hair. She makes me want to throw up. She looks at me and smiles. I see gunk all over her twisted teeth. I look away quickly and start watching the movie. As long as she doesn’t touch me I’m fine. I spoke to soon. Just then an arm rested on my shoulder. I shiver and gag at the thought of that thing touching me! I look at her again. She looks happy that she put the move on me. Does she think I enjoy this! I think of any way to get her off without hurting her feelings. I feel her arm adjust and hope she is taking it off, but she doesn’t. I look around to see if anyone is watching. I see my friends snickering. This can’t be more embarrassing! I look around some more to see if there is anyone or anything that can save me! I see nothing. I smell the odor coming from her underarm. I think harder and harder till after what feels like an hour I think of a move to get me out of this. The phone call, it’s a trick my brother always uses to get out of stuff. I touch my cell phone reassuring that it is there to save me. I feel the rectangular shape of it and get relieved. On my phone, when you turn it to vibrate it vibrates to show you what it is. I slip my hand into my pocket secretly. I start pushing the volume button. I have this memorized from doing it many times in school. I push it five times and then wait. I close my eyes tight and hope for it to vibrate. It does. She looks at my pocket and I pull out my phone and pretend to look at it. Then I look at her and say “I got to take this one.” She nods and get up and leave the theater.
